Hi Everyone!
I'm excited that we have so many people participating in this summer's EL (English Learner)book blog! The name of the book is "Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners, The SIOP Model." I'm suggesting you go ahead and read the 1st chapter, which is an introduction, anytime over the next couple of weeks and then we'll start with comments about Chapter 2 during the week of June 9-15.
Each person should comment once per chapter (ideally, once a week so we're all talking about the same chapter, but you might need to double up chapters some weeks and that's fine!). In your comments, please address the following questions: 1. Were there any new theories introduced in this chapter that resonated with you? (Or, did the chapter bring new meaning to a theory you were already familiar with?) 2.Are there any teaching strategies mentioned in this chapter you would like to try in your classroom?
Here will be our schedule:
June 9-15 Chapter 2 Lesson Preparation
June 16-22 Chapter3 Building Background
June 23-29 Chapter 4 Comprehensible Input
June 30-July 6 Chapter 5 Strategies
July 7-13 Chapter 6 Interaction
July 14-20 Chapter 7 Practice & Application
July 21-27 Chapter 8 Lesson Delivery
July 28-Aug.3 Chapter 9 Review & Assessment
You can read the last closing chapters at your convenience. We will find a time when school starts back up to meet, share and put closure on the readings.

Hi Everyone! My thoughts for this blog is that we will read one chapter a week (there are 6 chapters total) starting the week of June 25 and ending on Aug. 3. Each person should blog once a week during this time (more if you want!), addressing the following questions: 1. Were there any new theories introduced in this chapter that resonated with you? (Or, did the chapter bring new meaning to a theory you were already familiar with?) 2. Are there any teaching strategies mentioned in this chapter you would like to try in your classroom?
